In an educational excursion aimed at bridging classroom knowledge with real-world media practice, the 100-level Media and Communication students of Lagos State University (LASU) embarked on an academic visit to the prestigious Channels Television headquarters in Lagos.

The visit, which took place on June 20th,2025, was part of the department’s initiative to expose students to industry best practices and deepen their understanding of modern broadcast journalism, newsroom operations, and digital media production. The enthusiastic students, accompanied by the President, Faculty of Communication and Media Studies, Lagos State University, Obaze Noble Ayodeji, were warmly received by the GM Channels Academy, Kingsley Uranta, GM Operations, Channels Television, Patrick Obuseh, GM News and Current Affairs, Channels Television, Ambrose Okoh, and Head of Channels Digital, Simon Ejembi, and guided through various departments of the station.
The students toured the newsroom, control room, and studio sets, witnessing firsthand the behind-the-scenes activities that go into delivering credible and timely news to millions of viewers across Nigeria and beyond.

From news scripting and teleprompting to camera operations and live broadcasting, the visit offered a holistic perspective on how professional journalism is executed.
During a brief interactive session, the GMs, as well as senior journalists and producers from Channels Television, addressed the students, sharing their career experiences and insights into the evolving media landscape. They emphasised the importance of ethics, fact-checking, and adapting to technological trends in journalism.

Many students described the experience as eye-opening. Seeing how news is produced in real time was inspiring. It has helped me understand the dynamics of a newsroom better,” said Joy Adewale, a final-year student.
The visit also served as a platform for potential collaborations between Channels Television and Lagos State University.

As the digital age continues to reshape communication globally, such interactions between media students and practising professionals are critical. They not only equip students with practical skills but also inspire innovation and professionalism among the next generation of storytellers.
The excursion to Channels Television stands as a significant milestone in the academic journey of LASU’s Media and Communication students.
