DW Partners Channels Academy To Train Next Generation Of Environment-Conscious Content Creators

Our long-term partner DW Deutsche Wellehis Environment team was in Lagos, to train the next generation of content creators to draw attention to environment-related issues that would strike action through their digital content formats.

Over two days, 29 participants from the University of Lagos, Lagos State University, the Nigerian Institute of Journalism and independent content creators took on the challenge to reimagine storytelling with the theme“Stories That Click: Connecting With The Young Minds

The focus was on identifying key questions, such as how to make the topics of climate and the environment more engaging for the target group. 


Present to bring their wealth of experience to the fore were Vanessa Fischer, Head of Environment, Joanna Wieczerza Gottschalk, Stefaine Duckstein as well as Chris Ilems, Anchor EcoAfrica, Simon Ejembi, Head Channels Television Digital and Kayode Okikiolu, Anchor and Newscaster.

The workshop opened with welcome remarks from the General Manager, of Channels Academy, Kingsley Uranta who identified the need for change in a rapidly evolving environment through content creation.

He charged the participants to think critically and allow their passion to be the guiding light in reflecting not only their knowledge of the environment and how to impact it but also a medium to air their views

Participants were introduced to persona map content ideas and how they correlate to creating the right type of content for the select target group. The highly interactive session saw the attendees break out into groups to ideate, refine and create content of different digital formats,

The facilitators also critiqued their content and helped in the fine-tuning process.

At the end of the workshop, certificates were awarded to the participants who expressed their delight at being part of the revolutionary event.
